In keeping with the recent developments in higher education institutions, the ASEAN-QA Forum 2020 will be held in a series of online sessions starting in July and culminating with the main Online Forum in October 2020.
This year’s Forum revolves around the theme “Drivers for Change: Quality Assurance in Times of Disruption and Innovation”. The Forum aims to provide quality assurance (QA) practitioners all over the ASEAN region and beyond an avenue to discuss current pressing issues which have been abruptly brought upon higher education institutions (HEIs) with the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing restrictions. As HEIs all over the world grappled with the sudden shift to fully digital online classes, the Forum will feature different perspectives and issues relating to quality assurance of teaching and learning in HEIs.
The first in a series of online Forum sessions is dubbed “Going Digital: How Do We Assure Quality in the Shift” to be held on July 23, 2020, 2:00 pm (Jakarta/Bangkok time, GMT +7) via zoom. This will center on how HEIs with different contexts and different levels of experiences handled the sudden shift, how they responded and carried out preparations, how QA played a role in the shift, and how QA can better support HEI management navigate the whole teaching and learning process during this pandemic.
Speakers include Ms. Miné de Klerk, Hybrid Learning Project manager at Stellenbosch University (South Africa); Dr. Kiran Kaur, director of Quality Management and Enhancement Centre at the University of Malaya (Malaysia); Dr. Klaus Himpsl-Gutermann, head of the Centre for Educational Technology and Innovation, College of Teacher Education, Vienna University (Austria); and Dr. Thomas Strasser, professor of language methodology and technology-enhanced learning at the College of Teacher Education, Vienna University (Austria). Miss Barbara Michalk, section head at the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK), will serve as key moderator of the online session.
After the case presentations, all interested participants will have a chance to join group discussions to exchange ideas and insights with colleagues and QA practitioners.
The 2nd Forum session will involve the students in “Digital Disruption: Learning from the Learners” to be held in August while the third is focused on assessment and will take place in September. All these will eventually lead to the culminating activity in October which will feature European and ASEAN keynote speakers and group discussions among participants.
The ASEAN-QA Forum 2020 is made possible through the efforts of the ASEAN-QA Association in partnership with the ASEAN Quality Assurance Network (AQAN), ASEAN University Network (AUN), European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA), German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), German Rectors’ Conference (HRK), Regional Centre for Higher Education and Development (SEAMEO-RIHED), and the University of Potsdam (Germany).
